Delphine Destoumieux-Garzon conference as part of the InfectioTron scientific animation

Human and environmental influence on the emergence of pathogens in the marine environment

Come and listen to Delphine Destoumieux-Garzon's lecture on Thursday 2 June 2022 at 15pm. This conference will be given in the framework of the scientific animation of the Equipex+ InfectioTron

The circulation of infectious agents has increased significantly over the last decade with the spread and emergence of epizootics, zoonoses, and epidemics. While the oceans and seas cover two-thirds of our planet, the marine environment remains little explored through the One Health prism. We are largely unaware of the extent to which it contributes, and may contribute, to global infectious risk. Marine invertebrates, both wild and farmed, inhabit coastal marine ecosystems, where they are subject to biotic and abiotic contamination from anthropogenic sources, harmful algal blooms, and climate change. Major crises have been affecting them for several years, causing significant damage to ecosystems and consequent economic losses. A better knowledge of the consequences of human activities and global change on coastal marine environments is now necessary to understand microbial dynamics and better orient public policies.
