Profile

Research

In the context of climate and societal changes, numerous pathogenic viruses have recently emerged in new geographical areas, leading to major health, economic and social problems. Notably, the geographical distribution of arboviruses (Arthropod-Borne virus) is linked, at least partially, to the ability of their arthropod vectors to invade new habitats. Our research projects focus on viruses of the genus Phlebovirus, and more particularly Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV). RVFV is mainly transmitted by Aedes and Culex mosquitoes. This virus is responsible of a zoonosis affecting primarily ruminants and humans. The successful candidate will analyze in vivo the biotic (viral, vector) and abiotic factors involved in the transmission of Phleboviruses (in particular of RVFV) but also, more broadly, other arboviruses. She/he will therefore have to implement vector competence experiments and study the impact of viral infections on the behavior of insect vectors. For this, she/he will rely on the projects, networks and expertise already in place within our laboratory. Nonetheless, the recruited lecturer will have to develop his own research project/network (in agreement with the team projects) and to apply for research funding. Moreover, we own and participate in the management of the infrastructures needed to carry out this project (Biosafety Level 3 Insectarium).

Applicants must have a solid expertise in medical entomology (Diptera) and arthropod experimentation in BSL-2 and/or 3 conditions. It is desirable that the candidate has been already involved in projects in the field of virology and, to a lesser extent, « omics ».

Teaching

The successful candidate will be involved in the EPHE (Diploma) and PSL (« Life Science » Master) teaching courses as well as supervise, as educational mentor, diploma and masters students. More precisely, she/he will lecture in « Molecular and cellular Virology », « Environmental and infectious microbiology » and « One Health ». She/he will also be responsible of the « Emerging and re-emerging pathogens » teaching unit, and will have to develop EPHE/PSL teaching offer on Infectiology.
